The year is coming to an end and we are already looking forward to the next one: what awaits us in the office of 2023?
The market has already begun to outline the next trends, a natural evolution of what we have seen in 2022.
The near future is not so dissimilar: the cornerstones of the last 12 months, a consequence of the radical change dictated by the pandemic, will remain the same. The transformation of working methods and the growing attention to health and the environment have triggered a change that is still ongoing, accelerated by a technology that moves faster and faster.
What will this mean for the office from January? We’ve identified 4 trends to consider right now.
1. Sustainability
More than a trend, sustainability is now at the heart of every building: its importance grows from year to year and touches many different areas, from design to everyday operations, individual and as a company.
It starts from the 3R Principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), mainly applied to materials and furniture production methods: they must be sustainable, ethical and certified.
2. Open space with inclusive design
It is no longer time for discrimination, nor for standardized spaces, nor for rigid rules: the watchword in 2023 will be inclusion. Workers are no longer satisfied with the one-size-fits-all approach.
More and more attention is given to neurodiversity and to the work-emotional-character needs of individuals, through the principles of inclusive design.
An increasingly common example is the division of open office spaces: those who enter the office must immediately understand which spaces are dedicated to socializing (e.g. high tables for teams with stools) compared to those suitable for silent work (e.g. meeting pods).
Another important element of inclusive design is light: it must be as natural as possible or equivalent to it. In private environments, on the other hand, the choice of dimmable bulbs is indicated, thus leaving the setting of the intensity of the lighting to the individual.
